At Allure, we get inundated with the latest and greatest beauty offerings every day. Most of it is exciting, some of it confusing, and sometimes it gets overwhelming, especially now that our homes have become our offices. Alas, that is the beauty editor's burden to bear.

When we really like something, you can trust that our opinion has come from vetting it against everything we've seen before, including our longtime favorites. (We've even written love letters to some of the products we hold most dear.) But we're always open to finding — and sharing — new favorites. It's a big beauty playground out there, so we'll gladly do the dirty work to test everything under the sun. And the crème de la crème often graduate to our Best of Beauty trials.

But let's stick to the present for now. Each week, Allure editors select the new hair, makeup, and skin-care products we're currently obsessing over. Trying to narrow down our favorites to just one or two products can be hard, but we manage. Check out what our editors can't get enough of right now.

All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

How to Talk About Boundaries When You’re Ready to Date Again

It’s been a long Hot Vaxxed Summer, and your news feed might feel like a blur of people rushing back out to socialize — and date. (Even though plenty of us, despite all the pressure, aren't ready — and that's perfectly okay.) After more than a year of Zoom dates and dating app messages, when meeting in-person might’ve been a struggle, a May 2021 study from Tinder found that more than half of respondents were specifically looking forward to casually dating this summer in light of increased vaccine access. But a year inside might've given you, as Mashable's Anna Iovine put it, FODA: Fear Of Dating Again. When many of us spent lockdown figuring out how to take care of our mental health during crises, how do we make sure a return to the dating scene also prioritizes our emotional boundaries?

Even though you might feel in a hurry to schedule IRL meet-ups with all the Tinder matches collecting dust in your app, worried about the next lockdown, letting that emotion drive your dating life might not help you keep your own best interests in mind. Experts tell Allure that resisting the urge to rush, and prioritizing having direct conversations about your wants and needs, is an important step in setting boundaries together.

"What I can see happening most often is kind of moving past your boundaries, because you want connection, especially after so long feeling disconnected from people," Nicole L. Gonzalez, a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, tells Allure. Maybe you have a first date who's comfortable with sex on the first date if you're both vaccinated, but you’re not so sure. Maybe you’re the one comfortable with it. How do you broach that conflict?

Get Familiar With Your Core Values

Gonzalez, who has expertise in couples therapy and relationship counseling, suggests that the easiest way to avoid that conflict is to fully understand your own personal boundaries around COVID, so it will be more clear to you when someone tries to cross them. If you're struggling with really defining those values, Gonzalez says, taking the time on your own to establish them will go a long way in preparing you to explain them to someone else. Gonzalez says she often directs her clients to one of the many free websites that have lists of hundreds of "core values" to consider, then write down the ones that resonate the most with them. "You kind of boil it down to values around who you are… When you're making decisions, and when thinking about things for yourself, you can look back [to reference]," she explains. That way, you're already clear on what's important to you — and consequently, what will be important for you while dating.

Keep Taking Things Slow

Maybe you’ve already started having these conversations on the dating scene. Corinne Novella, a licensed clinical social worker and therapist, tells Allure that plenty of her clients started figuring out how to date during lockdown. According to Novella, who is an expert in couples counseling, what was key then — and should be key whenever approaching the dating scene — is taking things slow.

"Naturally, because of how everyone's lives had to completely slow down or even come to a halt in certain circumstances, people have approached dating in an equally measured and slowed down pace," Novella says. Her clients routinely started new romantic relationships with FaceTime chats to test the waters of what each person expected, and opening up early on helped that process. "I'm really proud of how people were able to do that, successfully navigate this whole new realm with really taking the time, having these conversations and saying, 'What are you comfortable with? Where are you at in this?'"

Evaluate the Risks

This slowness and communication is key because, Novella points out, even if dating might be physically a little safer, it's still fraught — and we’re not even out of the woods yet, with fears about the Delta variant and breakthrough cases rising. "There are certain decisions that people have to make, that might contradict what your friend or your parents might say is the sacred, safe thing to do," Novella says. "People have to negotiate what they need, and to balance the risk that they're taking."

And after a year of difficult decisions, making even the mundane into a life-threatening possibility, it might make dating more stressful. Novella adds, "Maybe people are sick of [measuring risk]! It started with maybe the grocery store, but now it's dating. It's like, 'Okay, so what level of risk are you comfortable with?'" But understanding the risk in your decision-making is an important piece of understanding what risks you're willing to take. Novella says we're already always grappling with a level of risk: The important part is measuring the risk in your personal circumstances, and acting accordingly, while recognizing how necessary IRL meet-ups really are. "The impulse, after a year and a half, to go out and connect with people is so strong, and so important. That's the mental health piece: It's so important to connect. It's the difference between feeling like you're managing or not," Novella tells Allure.

Remember: DEAR MAN

So what do you do when you’ve reached an impasse? Maybe your date-to-be is pushing you to go out to dinner indoors and unmasked, and you’re not comfortable with that, perhaps because you live with an immunocompromised person. Gonzalez shared an acronym to refer to in these moments: DEAR MAN.

Describe the current facts: COVID is ongoing and the news on the Delta variant is making you anxious. Express your discomfort about eating indoors unmasked. Assert that you’d feel more comfortable with an outdoor park date. Give some positive reinforcement about the idea, how excited you are to spend time with them in a format that feels safe to you.

If your date-to-be isn't immediately understanding, stay mindful of any attempts to undermine your concerns. Gonzalez says it’s important to appear confident by maintaining eye contact and repeating your point without backing down. Finally, if you’re still trying to work out a compromise, you can negotiate — to a point. "Listen to the other person's opinion, and the other person's feelings, and the other person's values, and try and find the middle ground if you can, but if you can’t, know that there's going to be somebody else who has your values out there," says Gonzalez.

Only you will know which values and risks you'll be willing to negotiate on, but thinking those through before approaching that kind of conversation will help you feel secure in doing so. So go ahead, get out there and have some fun, but make sure you're keeping your own boundaries while you're doing so. You deserve to date someone who respects them.

I don’t think you know what an orgasm is until you’ve tried sex toys. Hands, fingers, and other extremities will get you there, of course, with some added human connection, no less. But the work of a vibrator is just otherworldly. Regardless of if you have a vagina or a penis, you can’t deny that those sensations feel different. But there are so many vibrators on the market—how do you possibly choose one? As a sex writer, my recommendation is always something with a little versatility, and the coolest vibrator I got my hands on recently is from We-Vibe: the Touch X.

About the Vibrator

The Touch X vibrator is a petite, clitoral stimulation vibrator that isn’t meant to be inserted. It has eight intensity levels with seven different modes of vibration so you can play around and test what gets you there the best. You can use it on your own or easily with a partner due to its small design.

It’s rechargeable via USB, and you get 120 minutes of play for one charge. It’s also waterproof so you can easily bring it into the shower with you (and a partner!). Because it’s made of silicone, you can only use water-based lubes and other products with this vibrator.

One of the coolest features of the We-Vibe is that it has a travel lock. Ever brought your vibrator on a family trip and worried that throwing it in the backseat would turn it on, and the next thing you know, your little brother is asking why your suitcase is buzzing? (Just me?) Before tossing this vibe into your bag, turn on the travel lock so it won’t accidentally switch on. Genius.

Features

10/10

The Touch X has every feature you want in a vibrator: the ease of charging, how long the battery lasts (I’ve used this over a handful of times now and haven’t even pulled the charger out of the box yet), the sleek design, the revolutionary travel lock, the varying intensities, that it’s waterproof—I mean, I could go on. Since I got this, I haven’t picked up another vibe.

Source: We-Vibe

Volume

10/10

This is easily the quietest vibrator I’ve ever used. A lot of vibrators are really quiet when they’re pressed against your body, but the second you pull them away, they go haywire and wake every innocent bystander in your apartment complex. This one is quiet from the second you turn it on. This will officially be my travel vibrator because I don’t have to worry about it waking up my friends in the room next to mine or—god forbid—being heard by my sweet grandmother next door at the family holiday party.

Versatility

10/10

What makes this vibrator so special is its versatility. If you only know me for my sex writing, my first love is beauty, and I spend the majority of my day working as The Everygirl’s beauty content manager. So when I heard this vibrator (already a fantastic vibrator that you can use in the shower, charge easily, and bring on vacation with no stress) could also be used as an extremely multifaceted skincare tool, my intrigue levels went up ten-fold. Due to the design of this vibrator, its soft silicone material, and its varying intensity levels, it’s also a great facial massager to sculpt, massage, and relax your face. I started using this in the mornings to massage in my eye cream (the tip is the perfect shape to fit under your eyes), and my under eyes look so much less puffy and my eyes look less tired. You can also use it as an overall facial massager with your serums; it helps those products penetrate better and is so relaxing.

Source: We-Vibe

Intensity

8/10

There is something for everyone in this vibrator. The starting intensity is pretty low (which is what makes it great as an overall massager), but you can build it up to be quite intense. I’m not one for the extra patterns (just give me a classic vibration), but I like that the option is there, and I can see them being great for partner play.

Price

7/10

This isn’t the cheapest vibrator in my collection, but I can look over the price because of how effective and versatile it is. If you want a really good vibrator that won’t ever let you down, sometimes you have to chalk up a little cash.

Final Thoughts

The We-Vibe Touch X is like the gold standard of vibrators. It has everything I’ve ever hoped for in a vibrator, and because I can use it as a fun skincare tool too, I’m using it more than I’ve ever used other vibrators. I recommend quite a few sex toys, but this is about to be my #1 rec for everyone, whether it’s your first vibe or 10th. Its versatility makes it a welcome addition to any collection, even my overflowing drawer.

7 Things to Do Right Now if You’re Job Hunting

It’s common knowledge that job hunting can be terrifying, overwhelming, and exhausting, but it can also be exhilarating, satisfying, and easier than you think. From those who have unexpectedly lost their jobs to the gals attempting a career change, putting your best foot forward is going to make the job hunt much easier.

Looking for Better Sleep? This Super Ingredient Might Be the Answer

don’t fret, exhausted readers 💤

If you’re in the throes of a job search, adding manageable, concrete tasks to your to-do list is vital in keeping your morale high. Here are a few quick wins you can accomplish right now, from the comfort of your couch, to help you land the job of your dreams.

1. Update your LinkedIn

This is non-negotiable, and if you don’t have LinkedIn, it’s time to set one up. The basics, like your relevant job history, an eye-catching profile photo, and key competencies, are a great place to start. Update your resume with your latest employment details, even if you have yet to leave (head over to the privacy settings to change settings like allowing recruiters to see that you’re job hunting and turning off profile update notifications to connections).

This is a great time to ask for recommendations from connections and to add in any publications you’ve written, personal website links, and achievements. Don’t be afraid to “link in” with others too and follow companies or topics that are interesting to you—you just might find your next role that way.

2. Tidy up your resume

Although it’s becoming easier than ever to apply online with your LinkedIn profile, you’ll want a stellar resume to back it up. If you’re in the creative field (graphic design, copywriter, social media manager, etc.), designing a visually appealing resumenot just your standard, plain-text Word document—is becoming the norm. Also remember that if you’re in the creative industry, your resume is even more of a first impression to potential employers. The way you present yourself on paper visually and how you choose to write your copy will speak volumes before you even have the chance to shake their hand.

Make sure all your job descriptions are up to date and speak in the past tense (unless you still work there). If you have any gaps in your career, be sure to have an explanation for them. Finally, triple check your spelling and throw it in an online app like Hemingway to help you sound concise. If you have a peer you admire in your field, have them read it over to see if it all makes sense.

3. Read job descriptions thoroughly (then read them again)

Make a list of all the potential job titles you’d be interested in. Then, start searching for these titles on LinkedIn, Monster, and other online job boards, clicking on the jobs that appeal to you, regardless of location, salary, or experience—this is purely an investigation! Take note of the qualifications employers are looking for in this title (Adobe Illustrator? Event planning with a six-figure budget? Three years of fashion editorial experience?) and fine-tune your resume and LinkedIn to reflect these skills. If there’s a software that you’re proficient in that keeps getting mentioned, add it to your resume and profile—do not assume that the potential employer will know you have it.

After reading a few of these, you’ll start to pick up on the language used in your desired industry and will be able to speak directly to your potential employer in your profile and resume. It’s helpful to save a few of your favorites to look back on later when you need some inspiration for your cover letter.

4. Start upskilling

Did you notice a few skills while researching that aren’t in your skill toolbox? No worries, this is where you start upskilling. Pick a skill you’ve been wanting to master that will serve you well in your new career and commit yourself to it. Whether it’s a soft skill like public speaking or a hard skill like photography, there’s a wealth of great online resources to help you every step of the way. You can try places like Skillshare or YouTube to learn just about anything. Remember: Investing the time and money in yourself to upskill is always worth it.

Even if you haven’t mastered the skill by the time you’re sitting down for an interview, you can honestly say you’re learning something new that will help you on the job. Employers will be impressed that you’re taking the time and initiative to teach yourself, and you’ll feel great about answering “I’m learning how to do that” instead of “I don’t know how to do that.”

5. Audit your social media profiles

If you think no one’s checking your social media profiles when you apply to a job, you’re wrong. You can’t unshare posts, photos, or comments, and deleting them won’t erase them from the internet, but what you can do is tidy up the first impression your potential new boss will see when they visit your social media profiles.

Start with your profile photo. Are you gleefully taking tequila shots with friends? Avoid anything that may seem controversial or offensive and stick to neutral, happy shots. I’m not suggesting you devoid your profile photo of personality—after all, this is your social profile—but discretion here may increase your chances of securing the job.

Next, go through your photos and hide any albums or photos that don’t reflect the best version of yourself. This doesn’t need to be done, however, if you decide to keep your whole profile very private. But keep in mind that if you’re searching for a job where maintaining a social profile is necessary, a locked down profile can be a red flag.

Finally, if you have a personal website (maybe you use one as a living portfolio), this is a great time to check that all links are working, content is up to date, and contact information is correct.

6. Network and volunteer

Now comes the fun part! Look on Facebook Local for events in your area that fit your industry, age, or interests, then go to them! Be prepared to talk about your current or past work situation and have a clear idea of what new job you’re seeking out. Be confident and don’t be afraid to meet someone for coffee if they ask—this is how these things start! Putting yourself out into the job search universe and allowing yourself to be known will mean you’re that much more likely to be thought of when a role becomes available.

If you have the free time, volunteering for a nonprofit or cause you believe in is a great way to upskill and network, making it a real double whammy. If you’re a social media manager who loves dogs, offer to help a local rescue with their Facebook and Instagram. If you’re in the human resources field, offer mock interviews to women in shelters. I personally found that volunteering my skills was so rewarding for both me and the organizations I worked with. The nonprofits were happy to let me try different techniques and strategies, and I felt more creative and inspired. This helped me in my own career and also helped the organizations I worked with.

7. Upgrade your interview outfit

We’ve talked a lot about first impressions in these seven tips, and this advice doesn’t stop with the face-to-face meeting. Dressing up is still a definite (even if you know your potential employer wears jeans every day to the office, it’s nice to step it up a notch), and looking smart and polished is key. Investing in a neutral pair of pumps or stylish mules, a basic skirt or pair of pants, and a button-down blouse is sometimes all you need to create the look.

Having a smart leather tote to have a copy of your resume and notebook in will also make you look put together and let you discreetly carry your phone or any other essential belongings. Dressing business or corporate for an interview will leave a favorable impression on any employer.

When you've got major inches, you've also got major options when it comes to your hair. Maybe you favor a one-length cut to give your fine hair some volume. Or perhaps you fancy a chop that will play well with your ringlets. If you're willing the shell out the cash, you might even want to add some super long extensions just to be extra.

Hairstory's resident New York City-based stylist Wes Sharpton says long hair is all about versatility. "If you like to style your hair, having a long haircut gives you great options to change up your look," he notes. No matter what you want to do with your long hair, there's a perfect cut out there just waiting for you to discover it; but since there are so many choices, a little guidance is helpful.

First things first: planning is key. "Pull images that speak to you," says Sharpton. "They may not be exactly what you want, of course, but this gives your hairstylist the overall vibe that you are looking to attain." You want the haircut itself to be customized for you and what's best for your texture and density. Create an image folder on your phone or put together a Pinterest board and have it ready the day of your consultation so you can jump right into the conversation with your hairstylist. "Being prepared with references makes it easier for everyone," Sharpton adds.

To make the process smoother, read on for inspiration from the stars and tips from the pros. Here, a few of our favorite cuts for long strands — and how to get them.

How Uranus Retrograde Will Affect Each Astrological Sign

illustration of uranus a blue planet with rings in spaceGetty Images

Uranus retrograde is coming, so get ready to unleash the alien within and make some tough — but necessary — decisions. Uranus is one of the outer planets, along with Neptune and Pluto, meaning its retrograde affects all of us, but those effects can be generational, as outer planets take a much longer time to move between signs. The planet of eccentricity spends seven years in each sign. Currently, it's in sensual Taurus, turning our attention to the importance of self-care. Unlike Mercury retrograde, this planetary alignment is much welcomed. Uranus going retrograde helps boost confidence so you may play a more active role in making the world a better place.

From Thursday, August 19, 2021, to Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Uranus officially goes into retrograde. As the planetary ruler of independent Aquarius, Uranus is all about independence, innovation, and humanitarian efforts.

What exactly happens during Uranus retrograde?

When any planet goes retrograde, it appears to move backward in the sky. Keep in mind that Uranus spends roughly 40 percent of the year retrograde, though — 150 days, to be exact. Unlike Mercury retrograde, which typically lasts three to four weeks, three to four times a year, Uranus' effects don't feel as potent and immediate. It might help to think of Mercury retrograde as a short-term fiery fling that might cause some heartache but teaches you how to be patient. Uranus retrograde, on the other hand, is a long-term relationship that can be tough at times but ultimately brings out the best in you.

Because Uranus is such a wildcard, life can often become calmer when it goes retrograde. This respite can offer you a chance to tidy up the areas of your life which Uranus rules, including, but not limited to, any personal or political revolutions. You may find yourself inspired to get a makeover or get involved in local politics — or both.

This period also encourages you to level up by becoming confident in your worth within your own daily life. This is the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone; if you're dragging your feet against change, Uranus retrograde might just rip off that bandage, whether you like it or not. If you find discomfort at work, in love, or with the world, channel your energy into growth and productivity through self-care. Need some specifics? I've got you covered. Below, I'll unpack how Uranus retrograde affects each astrological sign and how to make the most out of this transformative time based on your sun sign.

Aries

At times, you can be stubborn, Aries. You usually get what you want, but your ego can get in the way of facing the truth. Are you getting what you want out of your love life? If your current crush or relationship balances on the hope that someone will change, it's essential that you put yourself first. Find someone whose goals align with yours — you deserve it.

Taurus

Because this retrograde takes place in your sign, lovely Taurus, you may feel its effects more than others. This could mean you feel a renewed interest in activism over the next few months. Don't be surprised if people who disagree with you politically confront you, such as family members, coworkers, or potential lovers. Your task is to decide what's worth fighting over and what's harmless enough to let go.

Gemini

You're wild at heart, Gemini, but Uranus retrograde wants to make sure your late nights aren't jeopardizing your health. Yes, you're very popular, but you need food and rest to function at full force. Your retrograde task is to create a self-care routine and follow up on regular doctor's visits. And of course, consider working with a therapist if you aren't already.

Cancer

Caring deeply about your family, friends, and romantic partners is a major part of who you are, Cancer. However, you tend to give so much to loved ones that you risk putting aside your own feelings, which can lead to resentment. Instead, you need to verbally establish your needs and boundaries with others so you can enjoy receiving love as much as you give it.

illustration of uranus a blue planet with rings in spaceGetty Images

Leo

Uranus retrograde puts your finances front and center, Leo. Due to the pandemic, many of us took whatever work and wage that we could get. If you aren't being compensated properly for your work, though, now is a great time to use your brave roar to demand fair pay.

Virgo

You're one of the brightest signs of the zodiac, Virgo, but that busy mind of yours doesn't always make life easy. In particular, your anxiety may be starting to get you down. During Uranus retrograde, avoid judging yourself. Make time for relaxation techniques, such as sleep, meditation, long baths, and even lovemaking. And remember, you should never feel guilty for prioritizing your mental health.

Libra

You have an enjoyable Uranus retrograde assignment, Libra. It's time to get back in touch with your inner Venus. You're known for your dedication to all things beauty, even if you had to cut back on some primping rituals throughout the pandemic. Uranus retrograde asks you to adapt to life in a world with COVID but not at the sacrifice of all your beauty rituals. There's nothing wrong with craving frivolity, and your nightly skin-care routine is holy. Consider adding some new products to your lineup or experimenting with new, buzzy ingredients.

Scorpio

Scorpios have a reputation for being manipulative, which isn't fair. Sometimes, you just get scared of being honest and genuine. If you want to ask your partner about moving in together, stop dropping cryptic hints they can't decipher and practice being forthright. Clear communication is crucial to making a relationship work, and you're at a point in your life where you need to become more mature in your partnerships.

Sagittarius

At the risk of sounding morbid, Sagittarius, lately, you've been contemplating the brevity of life. You're a wise sign and increasingly aware of all the times you put your needs second. If you want to move, have kids, or spend time exploring your gender expression, Uranus retrograde is the time to do it. Identify what you want. Don't let anyone get in the way. And fight for it like the brave archer that you are.

Capricorn

Capricorns are said to age backward, and you are usually quite content with life moving at a slow pace. Whether it's building your business or a romantic partnership, you're okay with taking your time. Life is short, though, and not everyone is as patient as you are. Make sure to communicate your expectations with coworkers and lovers. While you're at it, ask yourself if you're taking your time on an important decision in order to be responsible or if you're just practicing avoidance.

Aquarius

During Uranus retrograde, everyone gets to feel a little bit like an eccentric, quick-witted Aquarius. While your ruling planet is retrograde, you may become a mentor of sorts to friends and loved ones. Maintain a giving attitude, and be ready to offer useful advice if someone asks you about your views on a humanitarian issue — or even how to shape up their brows.

Pisces

You're so pretty and charming, Pisces. Sometimes, you forget how attractive you are — how endearing. The pandemic has been a challenging time for romantic relationships, and your self-esteem may have taken a hit. Your Uranus retrograde goal is to remember how hot you are and what you have to offer. Look to your trusted friends as sounding boards, and get back out there.

7 Beauty Secrets French Girls Swear By

Source: Polina Tankilevitch | Pexels

For me, Parisians can do no wrong. From stunning interior decor to effortlessly chic fashion, French girls know aesthetics, and that goes for their beauty routines too. While the key to the signature French look is je ne sais quoi, it still requires some effort to achieve. When I lived in Paris (not to brag or anything), I spent basically all of my time eating croissants, drinking red wine, and searching for all the beauty secrets that give French girls that iconic glow and effortless beauty. Crank up some Edith Piaf, pour yourself a glass of Pinot Noir, and read on for seven beauty secrets I learned from French women while living in Paris.

Looking for Better Sleep? This Super Ingredient Might Be the Answer

don’t fret, exhausted readers 💤

1. Give your hair a little extra shape and body

First lesson: Parisian beauty is more about what not to do than what to do. Their air-dried bedheads are a signature staple (hot tools need not apply), but what the rest of the world has a hard time figuring out is how they do it. I don’t know if you were blessed with flawless supermodel hair, but when I don’t blow dry, I look more like a wet Yorkshire Terrier than a street-style star.

For straight to wavy hair types, the trick is to wash hair before bed so you’re not leaving the house with wet hair (nothing less chic) and to sleep with damp hair in loose braids or a top bun to give hair gorgeous body and shape when you wake up. It gives a whole new definition to beauty sleep, doesn’t it? For coily and curly textures, use a curl-defining cream and a microfiber cloth to dry your hair as much as possible before the blow dryer to give you a lot of bounce without the extra heat.

Oh, and a great haircut with a little dry shampoo work wonders too.

2. Wash your face with water

You (yes, you!) can actually wash your face with water and improve your complexion while you’re at it. Micellar water, a French cult product, is pulled off pharmacy shelves faster than you can say La beauté, s’il vous plaît. The product is essentially special water with oil particles that hydrate, suck out dirt in clogged pores, and remove makeup (which isn’t that much for a Parisian, but more on that below). This is especially beneficial because water from the tap has a high pH that can be harsh and drying, so it’s important to add moisture whenever possible. When it comes to beauty, less is always more.

3. Keep makeup simple

Sorry, Kim Kardashian—no contour palettes are needed here. The goal of makeup for a Parisian is not to cover, hide, or fake. The goal is to highlight certain features while proving to the world that you’re comfortable in your own skin (this means not comfortable behind layers of foundation, concealer, highlighter, eyeshadow, contour sticks, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow gel, etc.). If you do want to go a little bolder, choose one feature and focus solely on that, whether it’s red lipstick or smudgy eyeliner. Keep everything else even more minimal than you think you need (curling your eyelashes or swiping on tinted lip balm can be enough). That said, at the end of the day, makeup is about confidence for the Parisian, so applying whatever makes you feel like your best self (no matter if it’s “simple” or not), is what’s most important.

4. Never look too “perfect”

A crucial factor of Parisian beauty (and style in general) is to be polished but never look like you tried too hard or took too long. This is so crucial to the French aesthetic—I imagine Parisians repeat this to themselves in the mirror every morning as an affirmation. A Parisian once told me that makeup should be used to show a lifestyle, not just beauty. When she wears eyeliner, she smudges it so it looks like she had a late night and slept in her makeup. When she wears lipstick, she dabs some off with her finger so it looks like she might’ve just been kissed. Note to self: Use makeup to seem more interesting instead of just more beautiful.

5. Perfume is for more than your neck

Spritzing perfume is more of an art form for Parisians than a step before running out the door. Get out of your one-spritz-on-the-neck routine and be strategic on placement: A spritz on the back of your neck is extra potent when (hopefully a special) someone goes in for an embrace, and letting down a ponytail when your hair has been sprayed with perfume makes a simple act instantly refreshing, delicious, or alluring (depending on what scent you chose). Spraying into your suitcase before you travel ensures you’ll arrive at your destination with fresh-smelling clothes, and a spritz on your pillow in the morning will pleasantly wake up your senses (I know it’s cliché, but I’d give bonus points for using Chanel No. 5. It’s cliché for a reason!).

6. Skincare is more important than makeup

When considering what beauty products and tools are worth the investment, Parisians put their money and effort into keeping their skin naturally radiant and clear rather than on good foundations or top-of-the-line mascaras to cover up or accent what they naturally have. French women know that beauty is not just what you look like on your way out for the evening but how you look waking up in the morning and just after you get out of the shower. Facials and skincare investments are not indulgences, they’re rituals.

7. Your beauty routine should give you pleasure

Mathilde Thomas, the founder of international beauty brand Caudalie and an iconic Parisian, has studied the beauty habits of both her homeland and the United States. In her book, The French Beauty Solution, she notes the key principles of a French beauty routine, including how the idea of beauty is something that brings you joy and pleasure. While Americans often talk about laser treatments and invasive facials (“beauty is pain!”), French skincare and beauty routines are more centered around feeling good both in self-confidence and indulgence. In other words, they include beauty as a crucial part of their self-care routine, not in an effort to look their best but as a way to routinely pamper themselves because they know they deserve it. Seek out treatments, products, and rituals that feel luxurious rather than painful, and view your beauty routine as a way to add a little more pleasure to your day.

I’ve collected quite a surplus of shirts over the years in an effort to find my personal style. My closet is bursting at the seams with blouses, crop tops, button-downs, and tanks, but my all-time favorite is my Budweiser graphic T-shirt that I copped from Urban Outfitters two years back.

don’t fret, exhausted readers 💤

Time and time again, I reach for that tee more than anything else in my wardrobe. Backyard barbecue with friends? Budweiser tee. Hitting up bars in Chicago’s Old Town on a Friday night? Budweiser tee. Casual trip to the grocery store? Budweiser tee. Bedtime? Budweiser tee. You get the point. My friends laugh at me for how much I wear it, but my love for this particular piece is so strong that I simply don’t care. “There’s the shirt again,” they snicker. Whatever, y’all. I’m a one-hit-wonder and I’m proud.

I’ve never met a graphic tee I didn’t like, and I particularly love how versatile they can be. Whether you want to thrift your own, dig up your mother’s vintage band tee, or buy it fresh, there’s a graphic tee out there for you. Styling graphic tees to achieve a cool-girl vibe is my true dream job. Here are my favorite ways to wear them:

1. Faux-cropped with straight-leg jeans

Source: @liztong_

Now, I say *faux* crop because I have to be in a particular mood to wear a crop top. Unless you buy a graphic tee with a cropped fit, the best way to achieve the look without pulling out shears and risking an asymmetrical, crooked hem and a permanent change is to either tie it up or tuck the hem into your bra like so. Rock your newly cropped top with a pair of high-waisted, straight-leg jeans and layered jewelry, and voilà, you have a new favorite go-to look for spring and summer.

2. Paired with a structured blazer

Source: @lifew.erin

Wearing a fitted or oversized blazer over a graphic tee is my version of business-meets-pleasure and is a great way to give a slouchy tee some structure. Maddie, our fashion editor and certified cool girl, rocked this look in our office pre-pandemic, and truly, I’m still thinking about it. If you want a look that says, “I get sh*t done but also know how to have a good time,” this outfit was made for you.

3. Tucked in with a pair of wide-leg jeans

Source: @waityouneedthis

Tucking a graphic tee into denim pants or chino trousers is so fashion-forward and a look that I’m currently drooling over. Pair with your favorite shoulder bag and pointed-toe loafers and *swoon.* It’s a bold and beautiful mix that I’ll definitely be rocking all year long.

4. Coupled with distressed shorts

Source: @twentysomethingplus

This look is so easy to put together and is one of my favorite outfit recipes for warmer temps. Grab your go-to pair of distressed denim shorts and pair it with your favorite graphic tee for an edgy, cool look you’ll rock again and again.

5. Under a power suit

Source: @theyusufs

Calling all boss ladies! This graphic tee + power suit pairing has your name written all over it. Graphic tees pair really well with an oversized, monochrome suit and help bring a playful vibe to a traditionally powerful look.

6. Paired with a delicate skirt

Source: @raeannlangas

Tucking my graphic tee into a flowy, long-lined skirt makes me feel like I’m living out all of my beachy California dreams and is a fun way to bring a more feminine vibe to a grungy T-shirt. If you haven’t yet considered this beautiful mix of girly meets edgy, it’s a sure and effortless way to up your warm-weather fashion game.

7. Rocked with an oversized denim jacket

Source: @chrissyford

Coupling a slouchy denim jacket with a loose-fitting graphic tee and wide-leg jeans says, “I’m on a coffee run but I’m also ready to run into Harry Styles on the street and make a move.” Pair with a denim-on-denim Canadian jumpsuit for an extra vintage look that will earn you some well-deserved extra credit.

8. Sized up with bike shorts

Source: @christineandrew

An oversized graphic tee with a pair of bike shorts is simply one of the comfiest outfit combinations and a look that I hold dear to my heart. This combo screams “effortless cool-girl vibes” and is super simple to recreate. It’s a perfect take on the “look trendy without trying” grocery store fit and is perfect for a day of errands when you want to look cute but with minimal effort.

9. Glammed up with a tailored pant

Source: @pamarias

Are you kidding me with this absolutely unexpected, glamorous outfit combination? Tuck a graphic tee into a pair of tailored power pants for the chic surprise you didn’t think to rock before. Paired with pointed-toe heels, a belt, chic jewelry, and a red lip? Sign me up for this fabulousness.

10. Dressed up with leather

Source: @gabrielegz

If I’m hitting a night on the town with my girls, you already know I’m pairing my graphic tee with a leather jacket or a leather skirt. Having this outfit formula on hand takes the guesswork out of the all-dreaded “WTF am I going to wear tonight” dilemma. It’s the perfect way to dress up an otherwise casual tee and looks so damn cool.

5 Tiny Organized Kitchens We Can’t Get Over

Source: @reserve_home

As a city dweller, living with a tiny kitchen is a rite of passage. Sure, we all would have loved to graduate from college and stumble straight into a dream home with a marble island and a fully organized kitchen, but in my heart of hearts, I know that having to use your stovetop as extra counter space is character building and that nothing feels more rewarding than your first kitchen with an actual dishwasher.

My grandmother always told me to “bloom where you’re planted” (sound advice, no?), so if you’re like me and have seemingly found yourself planted in a tiny kitchen with minimal countertop and cabinet space, fear not. I’ve scoured the internet for five tiny kitchens that lend some killer organizational tips to transform your quaint and cozy cook space.

1. Utilize every nook and cranny.

If your refrigerator is within close proximity of your stovetop, make the most of the tight footprint by utilizing magnetic strips to hang chopping knives and oven mitts. This simple and inexpensive hack frees up extra space on your countertop or inside kitchen drawers for food prep and day-to-day storage.

2. Consolidate your spices.

I recently realized that my chaotic spice drawer contained about three jars of Paprika, a disappointing taco seasoning that I’ve only used once, and an absurd amount of nutmeg that I bought for a holiday recipe I made two years ago. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Start by taking stock of which spices, vinegars, and oils you actually use, and donate duplicates to a local food bank. Displaying 5-10 spices in uniform containers now feels more like art than clutter.

3. Focus on vertical space.

Finding a suitable home for cleaning supplies and refillable goods when you don’t have a pantry can feel like an impossible task, but this tiny kitchen turns open storage into a functional feature, thanks to charming wall hooks and vertical storage solutions. My favorite trick? Hanging up onions and potatoes in neutral produce bags rather than corralling in baskets or bowls on the countertop.

4. Keep dishware consistent.

A key to optimal kitchen organization is having dishware sets and serveware pieces that nest well together. When it comes to stacking plates, dishes, and glasses on your open kitchen shelves, opt to keep the style, shape, and size consistent so that they can be stored together in a streamlined fashion, taking up the least amount of real estate possible.

5. Utilize an island.

This charming kitchen isn’t lacking in style, but the sloped roof creates some definite spatial challenges for creating a functional or spacious layout. Bringing in an island as the main source of storage and countertop space transforms a basic, one-wall kitchen into a chef-approved cook space.

Victoria’s Secret Just Rebranded—Here’s What We’re Eyeing

the angels are no more

The Everygirl’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

You know what betrayal feels like? It feels like years—during middle school and high school—of me trying to squeeze my curves into itty-bitty Victoria’s Secret bras and loungewear because that’s what everyone else was wearing, just to get into my adult years and find out that the brand doesn’t believe it should cater to plus size or transgender women.

Looking for Better Sleep? This Super Ingredient Might Be the Answer

don’t fret, exhausted readers 💤

OK, to be fair, maybe it wasn’t the whole brand, but in 2018, the (then) Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Razek, put into words what we all felt—that Victoria’s Secret had a blatant size problem. After that, I vowed to never shop there again. It made no sense to me to spend money on a brand that not only neglected to prioritize my sizes but also made it clear that they were not for fat women.

Now, in 2021, I’m reconsidering my “never” statement. Victoria’s Secret is undergoing a rebrand in which they’re seeking to redefine the definition of sexy by highlighting women of all body types, races, and sexualities and by replacing their brand-famous “angels” with what they’re referring to as “what women want” rather than catering to the male fantasy. Now, they’re attempting to get in touch with the customers they lost by focusing on women we adore for their beauty as well as their accomplishments (like Megan Rapinoe and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas).

“When the world was changing, we were too slow to respond,” said Martin Waters, the former head of Victoria’s Secret’s international business who was appointed chief executive of the brand in February, to The New York Times. “We needed to stop being about what men want and to be about what women want.”

Moreover, they’ve added XL and XXL to their repertoire, increasing their size range from 00-12 to 00-20.

The question remains: Will this rebrand be enough to win over and win back so many scorned by the company’s actions in the past and Razek’s comments only a few years back? Watching a brand that’s known for an outdated standard of beauty listen to customers and modernize themselves is exciting, especially when they once held onto their archaic views with white knuckles. It also helps that the company now has an entirely new executive team and is forming a board of directors where all but one seat will belong to women.

While it’s up to those of us who have been scorned by the company to decide if we’re willing to give them another chance, we support their change and transition to being a brand that’s one for all women, not just the ones that fit their former beauty standard. These are the pieces we’re loving from their new collection—and just might be adding to our carts.
